To Kindle or not to Kindle-- that is the question.

Back among the living! Wow, it's been a million years. At least.... Sheesh!! *LOL*
I've really missed communicating with you ladies so I'm happy to do a quick post I've been thinking about for some time.

In a world where your phone will do pretty much everything expect take out the trash, I'm noticing everyone seems to be retreating more and more into their own little world and I think its disturbing. Are you with me?

I'm not much better than the masses. I carry my phone everywhere. I use it for SO much that I'm not sure how I'd live without it. It's my phone, my phonebook, my "map", my radio, my email, my internet, my camera, my notebook...kinda scary how much I do with it. And let me not forget--my phone is my bookshelf.

That Kindle app!!! Oh baby!!! I don't know what I'd do without it. For someone who usually has 4 books going at one time (I know some of you have WAY more than that, but that's a lot for me) it is uber handy to read on my phone. I love it! Where before I'd have to carry several books in my purse,--much to the chagrin of my shoulder--now, all I need it my trusty Galaxy Note 4. Kindle, my shoulder thanks you.

BUT..... cue, menacing music....

The more I use my phone and the more I READ on my phone, the more I get headaches--so much so that I can't even LOOK at my phone or a computer for hours as a time. NOO!!! So frustrating! Even though actual made-from-paper books will always be my favorite, I LOVE my ebooks. *wahhh!!!*

As I've been thinking about it though, I think this is a blessing in disguise. I have this yearning to be less technology dependent, so in a way, these annoying headaches are a good thing. I find myself reaching for magazines and paper books more. I have started writing more letters in place of emails, and I find ways to avoid my phone, where before I was reaching for it very often-- and I LOVE that!

I feel like I rediscovered the joy of reading paper books (never stopping loving it, just in case you were worried! LOL) thanks to the invention of the ebook.

So, this whole post was just to try and answer the three year old question.....To Kindle or not to Kindle.... and I think the answer is: for me, Kindle about 43.7% of the time. ;)

Tell me--how much do you Kindle?!?!?!

Happy Reading!!

  2. I can't read as good with a kindle. I usually use the text to speech feature and listen while I'm working. :)

  4. I love my kindle!! Don't get me wrong, I love paper books too -- I'll never get tired of them! But I use my kindle all the time. However, I only read e-books on my regular, light-free kindle because staring at a lit-up screen for very long makes my eyes and head hurt. I've found that this lets me be able to enjoy all the great books available on kindle and the wonderful convenience of not having to tote around a bunch of books everywhere I go, without having to put away my book because I'm getting a headache. :)

  5. My answer is based on the need to save the battery life on my phone. If I start reading on my phone, then I really use up the battery - and then when I get home, I forget that I had been reading on my phone and used the battery - - and then forget to plug up to get my phone recharged. So I usually carry my kindle with me (which is so purse friendly anyway - at least with the average size purse) and read from my kindle - - the Paperwhite Kindle - which I really LOVE) - and save my phone for texting and calls. What are you reading now Amber? And does your phone have a brightness control that you could dim the lighting somewhat? It's just a thought, but do you wear contacts or glasses? When was your last appointment with an eye doctor?

    1. Hey Pam! I always love to read your comments!! I think it would help a lot if I used the Paperwhite more than the Kindle app. I'll try that and see if it helps! Right now I'm finishing up a great parenting book but I've got Tamera Alexander's book up next...I hear its great! What are you reading?
      Thank you for commenting!

    2. Hey Amber! I'll admit I really do love my Paperwhite Kindle - and the back light seems to be kinder on my eyes and brain. I would take a tip from Anne Payne and get an eye appointment - just to make sure there's nothing going on that needs attention.
And to answer your question - - right now I'm reading "Water from My Heart" by Charles Martin - - have you read any of his books? Fabulous!!! I do have Tamera's recent release on my TBR - - - but - - - did you know this is actually "New Year's Eve" for us Medieval Inspirational Romance book lovers????? Tomorrow is the release of Tamara Leigh's book - "Lady of Conquest" - - - I already have it pre-ordered and my Kindle awaits!!! Be still my Knight in Shining Armor heart!!!!!!

  6. I use my Kindle and my phone with the app but I prefer paper books. A little over a year ago I started having some pretty severe pain in my eyes. Enough to cause me to seriously slow down on my reading and reviewing. Pronto trip to the doctor and he put me on some special drops to lubricate my eyes. If I use them religiously, I don't experience the severe pain. Apparently, electronic reading devices cause the eyes to dry out more, causing more strain and headaches. The main thing for me is to not use any electronic device in the dark now.
