To Win Her Favor

Gone With the Wind meets Seabiscuit.
That's this book in a nutshell.

Book Rating: Best of the Best

The good old days are here again!!!!

I tell you, it took a lot of guts to read this book. Yeah, yeah, call me chicken, it's okay. But after the last Alexander book I read, I was beginning to think her style wasn't for me any more. I liked her first few series, but the last several books left me wanting.

Not this one!

This book is a crazy-kind-of-scrambled-up
GWTW/Seabiscuit. Am I right, or am I right?!? You know I'm right! And how fabulous is that?!?!?!

I can almost hear Mr. O'hara saying, "Land is the only thing that matters--it's the only thing that lasts!" And I can see Mammy with her adorable smile and her sweet tears... and THEN right after that I see horses racing down the track, the jockey's jersey colors flashing across the screen!

This book was exceedingly well paced, with wonderful depth and--BOY OH BOY--this book's got mother-loads of spice! Ooooh, Mama!!!! Could be considered too steamy by some, but all was appropriate in my way of thinking, especially considering they were married.

Great hero, great heroine, great plot and great history. *wink*

Glad I gave this one a try. Now you gotta give me your two cents. Did you like it? Is it on your TBR list?

Happy Reading!

  3. Boy Amber - - you hit the nail on the head!! I began to think the same thing - - the last couple of Tamera's books left me "wanting" - - and it left me feeling sad because I have so enjoyed her writing style in the previous series. And it left me feeling wary to buy another. I did download a "sample" of "To Win Her Favor" on my kindle - - and put it on the back burner of my TBR list. But now with your review - - and knowing your likes and mine are similar - - I'll be putting Tamera's book on the "next up" of the TBR pile. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!! I still also really enjoyed you taking us along on your cover photo shoot journey - - it was fun and interesting!!! As we just celebrated the 4th of July and with your love of all things historic and festive - - what did you & your family do to celebrate?

    3. Hahahahahaha - - - you crack me up Amber - because that is EXACTLY what I was thinking - - "who are you Rob P - and what have you done with Amber????" I'm so glad you did a family vacation for the 4th - - as for me - - I got up thinking "relax and grill" - - my hubby got up thinking "mow and edging" - - hmmmmm - - - let's just say our noise makers for the 4th was mower blades and weed eater string hissing noise - lol! I did make ribs - but I put a dry memphis rub on them sprinkled them with some liquid smoke & coca cola, wrapped tight in foil - and popped them babies in the oven - - meanwhile I got in the drivers seat of the mower and my ribs cooked while I shaved 3 acres with a marine cut!! It was my salute to the military - - HOOYA!!!!

  5. I LOVE this book! I've not read a lot of Tamara's books though, only To Whisper Her Name (which I adored) and A Lasting Impression (which I liked a lot, but TWHN and TWHF totally blew it out of the water). I know that they are connected by being places in Nashville, but so far, The Belle Meade Plantations books are winning over the Belmont Mansion. I have A Beauty So Rare of hers to read next, so we'll see how I like the next Belmont book. I also have Rekindled, and it's been in my TBR pile forever, but I still haven't read it. ;D

  6. Thanks Amber! I stumbled upon your blog searching for new book suggestions. This is great. I really appreciate the suggestion! Your review has swayed me. I’ll have to check out To Win Her Favor. Thanks!

I wanted to pass along one my pastor recommended to me. It’s the #1 bestseller on religious fiction, so maybe you’ve already heard of it. But I can’t stop thinking about. It’s a fantastic collection of short stories. It’s called Pieces Like Pottery. I really can’t recommend it enough. I would love to see your review of it at some point!

  7. I found your blog while searching the Internet to find more authors similar to Tamera Alexander. I have read the Belle Meade and belmont series of which I absolutely adore these novels. I agree with you that To Win Her Favor is the best of the best because this is now my all time favorite novel. I would love to see these books as movies. And thank you for your blog because now I have other historical romance novels to read.
