Friends, I am a bit of an oddball when it comes to pop culture. I’m not always into fads and stuff…just look at my closet and you’ll know what I’m talking about. #Ilovevintage #glovesandsaddleshoes

One of the things that makes this difference apparent, is my…well, how do I say this…I’m just not a Downton Abby fan.

Are you shocked? Well, it’s true. HOWEVER, one thing that would induce me to watch, are the costumes and the interesting history that follows the characters. One of those historical events being WWI. It has only been recently that I have learned more about that incredible time in recent history and I can honestly say it's really opened my eyes in may ways.

Now, if you ARE a D.A. fanatic, and you DO go gaga over those styles like I do, and you LOVE that era in history, and you are a HUGE fan of the English countryside, and you KILL for awesome romance (ok, maybe not "kill"...;) )—then I think you’ll like the book I’m reviewing today.

I have known this author for a while, but I’m slow when it comes to reading these days, and I FINALLY had the chance to enjoy her work, and let me tell you, it's phenomenal.

Pepper Basham is a delight, and her writing is just a lovely as she is. Her second novel THE THORN KEEPER releases February 28, and I know you will be consumed by it, like I was.

First of all, I must take a moment to comment on that cover!!! The flowers and the colors and the HAT???!!! Very beautiful.

For a quick understanding of the story...

Sounds fantastic, right?? Now, I will admit. I haven’t read the first book in the series, THE THORN BEARER, (though I have heard incredible things!!) and it had an impact on how I was able to connect with the story and the characters—which is the only reason I wasn’t able to give it my highest rating. So, if you do plan to read this one (which I highly suggest you do) then I would recommend you pick up that book first. I will definitely be reading it pronto and reviewing that one as well.

The romance in this book is absolutely insane!! Wow, wow, wow. The tension gets CRAZY and I loved it!!! We all enjoy a bit of romantic agony, right?? This fits the bill, I'm tellin' ya. As for the historical element, I found it captivating with incredible details, but I didn’t feel like it took over the plot, which sometimes happens with historicals. Instead, it enhanced the story, and I felt I could really envision everything!

Now to the part I love best. Her style. Pepper's "voice" is like a peaceful, summer stream--you just want to hop right in and once you do, you don't want to leave. She writes such lovely prose and gorgeous imagery, I was really swept away. She also does a masterful job with the Christian element, as well. I was often very moved by the spiritual strength and growth of the characters and it made me reflect on my life and growth. Bravo, Pepper!

So, friends, be watching for this book's release on the 28th. This story is...dare I say it...a keeper. BAHAHAHA Get it?? Man, I'm hilarious... ;)

The Covered Deep

You're shocked I know. AN ACTUAL HCR BOOK REVIEW!

I've been wanting to read this one for a while...a good read for a vacay that's for sure.

Up All Night'er (with reservations...)

I wanted to love this book--I really, REALLY wanted to love this, but for me there were too many things that bugged--you've been bugged before, right? I know that's happened to you.

It actually almost could have ruined the story for me, but before I explain that, let me share the many positives.

1. I loved the setting! I had not expected it to be set in the Holy Land--that was fantastic!

2. The plot kind of reminded me of a Jane Austen/Charles Dickens type story. Lots of characters, many with dark pasts who wished ill on others...I did enjoy that.

3. The hero was kinda perfect. He was "wounded" by decisions from the past and desperately wanted to make a new life. He was very much like Indiana Jones--an adventurous history buff (and I mean buff! LOL) who had traveled the world for ancient art and artifacts, etc. I mean, what's not to love? (So when the heroine can't get over the fact that he made a mistake--however huge--and had obviously truly repented, despite the fact that he desperately loved her and would do anything for her...gah! I mean, get a grip, woman!)

4. I LOVED the history and art that was discussed in this story--mostly by the handsome, intelligent, daring, brave, and fearless hero..........

*sigh*

Where was I? Oh yes. I studied art history in depth in college and I was geeking-out over the paintings and sculptures and architecture that was constantly be talked of by such a dashing man.... Very fun!!

Honestly, the heroine was so frustrating!!!!! GAH! For my taste she was too naive throughout the majority of the story, and got too mad for too long at the AWE-some hero--why did he even like her?? I mean, I guess I know why, but still.  It nearly did the story in for me.

I do recommend this book, however. It might just be my personal taste so don't let that sway you. Have you read this one? What did you think?

K, seriously, Melissa Jagears does not disappoint with A BRIDE IN STORE! You will love this one!!


Book Rating: Up All Night'er

I've been looking forward to this novel for a long time! I Luh-HUVED (that's "loved" with emphasis, by the way) the first book and couldn't wait for this one!!

Such a fun and unique plot! I was enthralled from the beginning. Excellent characters, fun twists (like, I mean, REALLY fun twists... I've never seen this done before!) and beautiful Christian messages throughout. Melissa has such an easy writing style and includes great bits of subtle humor that will have you smiling from beginning to end.

Mail-order-bride, Eliza Cantrell (I love how close that name is to Eliza Campbell, from So Fair a Lady!!!) is arriving to town a few weeks early, but things turn foul when her dowry is stolen and her husband-to-be isn't even in town!! Eliza is a very delightful heroine--strong, but not annoying... gentle, but not weak.

The hero, William Stanton is caring for Eliza's almost-husband's business while he's away, even though he'd much rather be doctoring. (Isn't there just something extremely attractive about a young, handsome doctor-type? Yeah, you know what I'm talkin' about.)

Sparks fly instantly but with Eliza ready to marry any day, they both believe nothing can ever come of what they feel for each other.

Oh man, I was SO surprised with so much in this book and I highly, HIGHLY recommend it!!! Well written, well thought-out and just a wonderful, inspiring read.

Captured by Love

I haven't found a Jody Hedlund book I didn't like. Period.

Another fantabulous Jody novel. As you know I'm a huge fan and have read ALL of her books, this one was just a great as the others!

Angelique (that name drips beauty!!) is a sweet, endearing character who has suffered greatly in recent years, when her childhood love, Pierre, returns to the island. Their love sparks quickly and the trials they face are frightening and numerous--will they be able to overcome such tribulation in the name of love?

Full of adventure and romance, this will novel satisfy every HCR fan, no problemo! A very enjoyable read, you could easily finish this in a day or two. One thing that stood out to me a great deal was the location and the fascinating history surrounding Michimalackinanana.... I mean, Michimilkamooka.... I mean.... well, anyway its this cool island that is now known as Mackinac Island. Pretty much, this book made me want to take a second honeymoon there....so picturesque!!

How many of you have read this? What did you think?! This was the first book of Jody's I haven't been able to give my highest rating. As much as I loved it, I felt it was lacking somewhat in character development and depth. And.... I can't believe I'm going to say this.... the romance actually didn't feel real--it kinda felt mushy and shallow at times. DON'T SHOOT ME!! I know you probably didn't feel this way, but I feel compelled to be honest.

You've gotta let me know what you think!! Jody's got several more novels coming out soon!! YAY FOR US!! Congratulations, Jody, on another fabulous novel!!

I'm breaking new ground here, and it's about freaking time!

Holy cow, people, I'm so glad I can make the rules. At first, when I started this blog I wanted to stick to pretty strict rules--only HISTORICALS--and for me, that pretty much meant anything pre-WW1. Well, I am happy to announce I have decided that rule stinks and I will now be reviewing books from Vietnam and earlier!!!!

This is my first WWII book--that I've reviewed on my blog--and I couldn't be more thrilled to do so! If you know me, you know not only my love of history, but my unyielding passion for WWII, and deep honor and respect for those who served in all capacities. I have become a GINORMOUS fan of Sarah Sundin thanks to this book and I plan to read all of hers--she is amazing. Not only does she write a fabulous story, her research and detail is stunning. For a history lover like me, that is paramount! I am blown away by what she knows and how she includes it so effortlessly in the story.

IN PERFECT TIME is the last in a three book series titled Wings of the Nightingale. You will LOVE it! I need to quickly repent and read the first two!!! LOL How many of her books have you read? Did you just devour them? I have no doubt you did!!

In this story we follow beautiful flight-nurse, Kay Jobson, who is known for being somewhat of a flirt, and leaving a trail of broken hearts where ever she goes. But it's not until she meets handsome and humble Roger Cooper (pilot), that she realizes she might be interested in settling down after all. Despite Roger's budding feelings for Kay, he fears he won't be able to give her everything she dreams of--and that's only the beginning of their troubles.

Folks, you will LOVE this story. Sweet, romantic, full of action and with a host of completely delightful characters, I have no doubt you will be completely hooked. Not only that, the spiritual nature of this book and the inner/personal conflicts were SO real and I felt so uplifted and edified. This is a Christian book that really makes you feel closer to God as you read. I LOVED the title...don't want to give anything away, but the more you read of this book, the more you will understand what it means--just beautiful!!

Another one I've been staring at for over a year! FINALLY!

Let's get one thing clear. I think the girl on this cover is way too pretty and should never be allowed to do covers again because it's tough on the rest of us ordinary peeps. Are you with me? *wink* Seriously, lovely cover, isn't it? It's one of the main reasons I bought this book.

As for the "inside", it was more enjoyable than I expected. After reading THE GIRL IN THE GATEHOUSE I was kinda wary of reading any more of Klassen's books, but since this one was SUCH a huge hit and an award winner (right?) I had to give it a try.

First of all, I thought this book flowed much better than the Gatehouse book, and Klassen just has an amazing style. So beautiful! As for the characters, I thought Olivia (heroine) was extremely likable, and the hero was great! However, the romance--in my humble opinion--was tepid at best. I wanted MUCH more from them and I thought there were ample opportunities where things could have heated up, but it stayed mild. And for some people that's just what they want, so I guess that's why it is popular.

The plot kept me interested--mostly--, though at times I was temped to skim because I thought it got slow here and there. In the end, to be honest--and even though I gave it my second highest rating--there wasn't anything that made me want to pick it up and keep reading once I put it down.

If you are looking for something worthy of a mini-series, lots of family drama, and episodes of excitement with only slight romance then this one will be great for you!

Now, I can finally say I've read it!

If I had a rating between this one and Here a little, there a little--I'd use it for this book. I enjoyed it--mostly--but, it was so unusual in some respects (and the hero was such a puzzle) that I can't honestly say I would read it again. But isn't the cover marvelous?! *sigh* Pink!!

Elizabeth Camden is a fabulous writer--an award winning writer, in fact--and she does know how to craft an exciting tale. This is my second Camden book, and I think I could read more of hers. It seems like her style is to include of a lot of mystery and sometimes suspense. I enjoy that, and it keeps me reading. This story was no different.

Such a unique plot idea! Libby Sawyer has just learned that a strange family has taken over her home--and claims it legally as their own! She soon discovers that this family is not the frightening group of foreigners that everyone seems to think they are. And Michael Dobrescu is more intriguing that she cares to admit.

Speaking of Michael.... I still don't know quite what to think about him! He's a soldier--from Europe--and very tough, and yet he makes--perfume?! My first reaction is to think, holy cow, that's swoon-worthy. (And in fact there's a pretty romantic part in this book where he...well, I won't give it away.) But in the next instant, I think--gosh, that seems like such a feminine thing to do! So, I'm on the fence about him.

Overall, the book was nice--but I would have really enjoyed MORE romance. In fact, I think there was barely a kiss. For many audiences that is an awesome thing--its very clean and sweet, but I would have loved to see more romantic tension between them, more "pure" passion, you know?! Also, there was another female character in this book that had a good place, but she stole a lot of the story and it seemed to break away from what was happening with the hero and heroine.

OK. That's my take on things. What did you think of this? Did you like it or not--tell me why, I just have to know! ;)

Tomorrow's Garden

I've had this on my shelf for a while so it was nice to finally find out what was inside! (Being laid up for a few weeks has a nice way of allowing a reader to whittle down that TBR pile!)

Book Rating: Up All Night'er

I have now read all of Amanda Cabot's books and overall I can honestly say, she is a very fine author. Her style is subdued, often very mild on the romance--and even sometimes a bit slow in the plot department for me--but there really is something to be said for a gentle, easy read and she really delivers there.

Tomorrow's Garden was a nice end to this series. I had really liked the Texas Ranger from Scattered Petals and I was really thrilled to see he was the hero of this book. Lawrence Wood was a very enjoyable hero, though a bit mild for my tastes--I tend to like a hero with more umph. (And by that I'm not honestly sure what I'm trying to say, but I think you might know what I mean, so I hope that's clear as mud for ya. *wink*)

The general story was not unlike many you have read in the past--young school teacher down on her luck and having to care for her younger siblings now that their parents are dead--but having enjoyed the first few books in this series it was fun to get to come back to this town and see everyone again. Do you like that about series books? I love it!

The heroine was kind of an ugly duckling-type--unaware of how attractive she actually was and not really sure why anyone would be interested in her. It took a while for the romance to heat up, and it never got Lessman-worthy, but it was sweet and rounded out the series very nicely.

I almost has more fun reading about the other characters (from previous books) than I did about these two, but that's just me.

If you are looking for something mild, easy on the nerves and a novel you can pick up and put down as needed, this is a great one.

No Place for a Lady

I was very excited to start this book thanks to a recommendation by my very dear HCR friend, Candy!! Candy has great taste and we have very similar "likes" in books, so I knew I would enjoy this one--and I did!!

Overall, I'm a big Maggie Brendan fan. I've read several of her books, though not all. This particular novel was intriguing enough, but I picked up on a few writerly things that made the story less fabulous than it might have been otherwise . . .

Allow me to explain.

Book Rating: Somewhere between Up All Night'er and Here a little, there a little

Maybe being a writer taints me as a reader, I don't know. But when I started this book I noticed right away a few things that turned me away from the story no matter how engaging it was. I won't spend much time on those things, but let it suffice that I found the actual writing passive and telling a lot of the time which pulled me out of the story.

The basic plot--girl with no family goes to a Colorado ranch and ends up needing to run the place. Honestly, even though there are almost too many of these plots to count, I still like them! There's great conflict, and just so many fabulous opportunities for romance, don't you think? *grin* The premise and setting were intriguing enough to keep me interested, but honestly it was the characters that I found less so . . .

The heroine, Crystal, didn't really come alive to me. I didn't get to know her and "feel" her emotions and struggles as I would have liked, but I think that might have been due to the writing style. Again, this is just my opinion. As for the hero, it's hard not to fall for a cowboy--am I right?! In this case, Luke is pretty great. However, even though their relationship just didn't have to spark I was looking for. But again, that might have been due to the writing style--or maybe it's just an Amber thing.

There were some really great scenes that I don't think I've ever really seen in another book--won't say what they are cuz I don't want to give it away . . . but in that repsect, I found it a very enjoyable read.

Dare to Love Again

Before this book I never cared much for San Francisco.

Before this book the name "Nick" was synonymous with a fat-middle-aged-hairy-Greek-dude.

Before this book I thought Julie Lessman was one of the best writers out there--

And this book proved SHE ABSOLUTELY IS!!!!

Oh, friends. What can I say? Once you start this book, you won't want to stop!! I went into this expecting something a bit different than her others, because I'd heard tell that is was somewhat milder (in number of kisses, etc) than her others. But WOW! Even though there were fewer kisses, the passion and tension was as strong as ever and her characters are full of life and simply jump off the pages. Her ability to draw you into a book, and play to all your senses is unparalleled. I can always see, smell, touch, taste and hear everything that happens. I love it!

When Allison and Nick first meet, they don't think much of each other. So when Nick is contracted to teach Allison jiu-jitsu neither of them are thrilled. But the sparks between them are undeniable--and from there, ladies, the passion is only just beginning.

Let's take a second here to talk about Nick. Oh wow. I like to think of him looking like Henry Cavill--only with greener eyes. *sigh* So dreamy. He's tough as nails on the outside, and just a cuddly teddy bear on the inside. Awwww! What's not to love about that?! The drama that ensues between him and Allison is great, and their relationship is SO fun.

The other story that is happening--between Cait and Logan--now, THAT was killer. GAH! I cannot wait until the next book to find out what happens with them. Their relationship is riddled with heart-thrashing drama. Literally, I am still thinking about it. LOVE IT!

Actually, one of the really great things about this story is how Julie kind of gives you a tour of "historic" San Fran! I had so much fun being a "fly on the wall" as Allison and Nick made their way through town on the trolley car (and I could totally relate to Nick's um... well... let's just say I'm not fond of trolleys either....*teehee*). Chinatown--for example--just came to life for me. I could read that again and again.

If you haven't read any of Julie's books yet, you are in for a HUMUNGONORMOUS (just invented that word... it means REALLY REALLY BIG.....) treat. *grin*

A Match Made in Texas

To novella, or not to novella, that is the question.

Hopefully, I have the answer.

OK. I've read several novellas now and I'm developing quite a strong opinion about them. *oh dear* But before I divulge that, let me talk about this particular collection as a whole.

It's nice to see these authors that we love getting together to write shorter stories with a similar theme. I thought that was fun. I enjoyed seeing Neill, especially, since I'm always a HUGE fan of Karen's. The plots of the various novellas were enjoyable with varying degrees of excitement and drama, and it was a very easy read.

Do I recommend this book? Absolutely....
Will you be sorry you bought it? No way....

*do you sense a "but" coming?*

But (there it is!) for me, these stories didn't feel natural--or they didn't feel like they flowed naturally out of the authors brains like a lot of the novels we read. For me--and this might just be me--I sensed the publisher in the background saying something like, "Hey, we've got an idea for a novella collection we want you to be a part of and we want to do it this way." Do you know what I mean? Maybe I'm just being way too picky. This is the real reason why I've shied away from these collections in the first place, and now my fears are realized. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. There are tons of raving reviews about these types of collections, so obviously there's a real market for them. For me it's a no-go.

Now, as for my overall opinion of novellas generally.... I'm not a fan. They are delightful little stories, but that's it. They don't stick with me, they don't have meat. In fact, sometimes I read them and think, "Shoot! Why didn't they make this into a full novel, it would have been great!" And I just end up feeling jipped. Has that ever happened to you?

In the end, yes, this book does deserve my second highest rating, but that's all. And will I be tempted to pick up any more novellas or novella collections? I don't think so. *frown*

Let's just take a moment here to absorb the utter masculinity of Luke Hayes. Seriously. He made this book for me.

This was my first taste of Naomi's writing and let's just say--it WON'T be my last. Her ability to get into the characters head and make their emotions and feelings tangible to the reader is fabulous. I couldn't get enough.

Luke Hayes is ready to pick up his little sister from school and take her home--that's all. And he does NOT want to get roped into anything else, but he can't help it when the school's mathematics teacher Elizabeth Wells needs his help. How can he say no to someone so beautiful--and so determined?

Elizabeth wants nothing more then to save her beloved girl's school from closing. But her unlikely supporter and ally makes it hard for her to focus--what with his dashing looks and rugged cowboy appeal. Will he stay and make all her dreams come true, or will he leave and break her heart?

You can't wait to read it, can you?! LOL For me, there was PLENTY of delicious drama and heavy tension--which you don't often find in LIH, I've found. The plot was intriguing and all the characters enjoyable. There was even a twist that I didn't see coming. Love that!!!

I *heart* Margaret Brownley!!

There's no such thing as an unlikeable Brownley book. I see you nodding your head--you know what I'm talkin' about!

In this conclusion to her BRIDES OF LAST CHANCE RANCH series, Brownley orchestrates a truly fun and engaging story that is reeeaaallly hard to put down.

Seriously, this author knows how to do romance! I knew going into this that there would be plenty of kisses and romantic tension to keep me happy--love that!!

Miranda Hunt is a skilled detective and assumes the name Annie Beckman to try and catch the Phantom--a notorious train robber--who is believed to be somewhere near the Last Chance Ranch. Little does she know that the handsome Mr. Branch is also an undercover detective on the trail of the same outlaw. If only Miranda can keep her mind on her work, and away from the handsome, intriguing and ever-mysterious ranch hand...

What a great plot! Very unique and kept me interested throughout the story. Quick, wit-filled dialogue and excellent Christian theme. I recommend this highly! And the really fun part is that you get to see the other characters here and there as well, which I LOVE! The only problem is... I never read book two!! I gotta get on Amazon...

Everything is so well intertwined--I really can't say enough about it. When you read it, you'll have to let me know what you think!

A Bride for Keeps

Thanks to Melissa, once I started this book I couldn't stop. I blame her for my unkempt house and for my poor children who had to scrounge in the couch cushions for left-over Cheerios on which to subsist, while I sat completely engrossed and oblivious to everything else.

That's how good this book is.

So prepare your family before starting this novel, and you'll be much better off than I was.

I just finished this book two minutes ago and though after a long day my eyes are aching and my head begging to rest, I must write this review now!! Sorry head, you'll just have to wait.

I was giddy while reading this. Just ask my husband. I got so engrossed in the characters and their drama-filled lives (yes, drama--you know how I love my drama) I couldn't focus on anything else. It was fabulous. I mean, isn't that what you want from a book?

Everett Cline has been jilted too many times to get his hopes up that this mail-order-bride will actually stay--and marry him. Julia Lockwood is trying to escape a difficult past, filled with pain. But she isn't sure if this marriage of convince is the answer. If its not, she's got to keep running.

The plot is sweet and flows effortlessly. I must admit that there were some things that happened that I did not see coming. And there were other things that I expected to happen, that never did. The romantic tension is CRAZY! In fact, I will admit that I yelled at the book, just once, because I could not believe that girl didn't just let it go and realize what kind of man she had!!! (I'm still not quite over it, can you tell?) And, let's face it, I would have liked another kiss or two mingled throughout, but the wait is well worth it, let me tell ya!

I dare you to try and put this book down.

My Hope is Found

You wanted it. You waited for it....and actually, you are still waiting for it, BUT your patience will soon be rewarded, and oh, what a reward it is!

MY HOPE IS FOUND is SOOOOOO-ho-ho-ho good! Literally, I read it in one sitting. I was up until the wee hours of the morning, but it was way worth it.

If you have read the first two books then you know about the delicious drama, romance and intrigue that Joanne has so craftily woven and you are simply gagging to know the rest! This book delivers on every account. Though I must say, I could have done with another kiss or two and especially a epilogue at the end, but that's just me.

In book two a new character was introduced--Toby. (I can hear you swooning from here! He's so dreamy, I know.) After the heartache that Lonnie has endured, she begins to think he might be the one to heal her heart--if only she could forget Gideon. Raise your hand if you are on "team Toby". OK, now raise your hand if you are on team Gideon. LOL Sweet! Seems like its about 50/50! *teehee* The tensions mount in book three and I simply cannot give anything away, because I know you will want to find out for yourself who she chooses....

I think Joanne did a great job of showing the growth of the characters. At the beginning of book one I really could feel Lonnie's innocence, immaturity (as in young), and lack of self confidence. And now, she's much wiser and has grown so much. This goes for all the characters. I think that was one of my favorite things about this story. I got so attached to these characters, its hard to say good-bye to them.

Well, I could go on, but I imagine it will just make you all the more impatient so I'll be quiet for now. BUT, this is not the last you will hear about this book!!! We've got some really fun things coming up as the release gets closer, so I'll keep you posted! This book releases Oct 15, by the way. I must say that this book was quite a pleasant surprise.

It's no secret that I'm a BIG Hatcher fan. Her novels are always sweet and full of inspiration.  This novel was no different, and it got me really excited for the last book of the series which comes out in the next several months, I think. (There's a few pages of Beloved--the next book--at the back of this book, and I was SO hooked!! I have a feeling this will be my favorite of all Hatcher's series....)

The two main characters, Hugh and Julia are marvelous! Their struggles were very real, and I loved the romance. Though I have to admit--and this might just be me--but, I REALLY wanted more drama! LOL (Have you heard me say that before?) More kisses, more danger, etc. That being said, I still think you will love this!

Hugh Brennan is trying to hide a difficult past as he searches for his lost sisters. On his way to Boise he stumbles upon a young widow who needs some help on her ranch. Julia tries not to let her heart be stolen by this dashing and somewhat mysterious stranger. He is very kind and attentive, yet her previous marriage was so hard she cannot allow herself to trust another man again.

Oh, I highly, HIGHLY recommend this! The end will touch your heart, and you will be gagging for the next book, believe you me!

Talk about high drama! I loved this story!

If you are a fan of history--especially Revolutionary history--then you have GOT to read this.  DAUGHTER OF LIBERTY is jam-packed with awesome historical facts and events that make the story, and history itself, come alive. (Not to mention the hero is a FABULOUS man in uniform, totally fearless and willing to risk anything for the heroine...who can't like that?!?)

This is a very complex and intricate story, full of excitement and danger. Don't you just love when the characters are in danger?! *teehee* I do!

In this novel, the heroine, Elizabeth Howard, secretly risks her life for the cause of freedom, even though her family is well known for being on the side of the King. She is shocked at her sudden and powerful attraction to a dashing British officer and tries her hardest to fight the emotions, but her love only grows deeper--especially when he confesses that he too has feelings for her.....and that's only the beginning!!!

Ladies, there is SO much that happens in this story it's almost impossible to give an adequate synopsis. I can promise you there is great action and excellent romantic tension. *sigh*

I would not classify this as a "light" read. If you are looking for a story to take you through the weekend, this book won't do. You'll need a lot of good time to take this nice and slow or you might miss some of the great detail and historical facts. And like I said before, its LOADED with historical facts, so just be aware of that going into it and embrace it, because that's one of the things that makes this book so fabulous.

Safe in His Arms

Oh man, if you've had a baby and experienced any cravings--you're gonna relate. I had a craving SO strong the other day (and no, I'm not preggo right now...) I could feel it in my bones--couldn't rest, couldn't focus until I got what I needed!

No, I wasn't craving a juicy hamburger like I usually do.

I was craving a COWBOY ROMANCE!! And this book was just what I needed.

SAFE IN HIS ARMS was pure cowboy heaven. Man, there's nothin' like getting caught up in the dust of the cattle as they stampede, and feeling the baking sun on your back. Am I right?! This book had it all, and even though I felt much better after listening to my craving, it reminded me why I always go back to westerns.

Margaret O'Brien doesn't feel pretty, and doesn't even really feel loved--by God or by anyone else. Until she meets Daniel Cutler and all of that begins to change. (This is where you sigh dreamily, cuz seriously, I thought Daniel was pretty darn dreamy.) I truly enjoyed Margaret's journey, and her ultimate acceptance of Christ's love. What a beautiful message!

The action and romance is just delightful with enough kisses to keep even me satisfied! Always clean and always exciting, this story will keep you turning pages that's for sure--from a stampeded, to a tornado, to a bank robbery...things keep happening and there's no time for you to get bored.

Margaret is already suspicious of Daniel when her father hires him to help on the ranch, but when she overhears him talking about a bank robbery, she is even MORE worried. But how can Daniel be following a life of crime when he talks so openly about his faith in God? Their attraction starts from page one...ok maybe more like page three, I don't know...but anyway, its right from the start. No doubt, this is a fun book.

Raise your hand if you have read (or at least seen the BBC version of) Emma. OK, good. Now, raise your hand if you've read (or seen the BBC version of) North and South. Yeah! I'm so proud of you! To me this was kind of like a combination of those two stories...in some ways. So, you're gonna like it at least a little--if not a lot. *wink*

Mia Stanley was born into money, but she never forgets those who have less. She has become deeply concerned/involved in the plight of women much less fortunate than she--and she uncovers something that will put her in grave danger. (LOVE IT!)

Garrett Wilson is another great hero. *sigh* I tend to prefer the more rugged type, but there's nothing wrong with a well dressed-man, now is there? Garrett sees Mia is a "little sister" type. Initially he is only concerned with keeping her out of trouble, but when he realizes she's put herself in real danger and that his feelings are more than "brotherly"...well, that is where things take a fun turn.

As you know, Peterson never fails you on Christian elements and that is one of the main reasons I keep reading her stuff. I am so uplifted by her books! In a world where things are becoming increasingly more difficult, we have to turn to Christ in everything. Thanks, Tracie for always following God's path in your writing!

So, find this book and enjoy. I know you will.

This book makes living in a freezing place sound fun! Especially when you can snuggle-up next to a hunky hero like Rurik. Merrill's got it made.

Another great novel from Tracie Peterson. I'm really beginning to get hooked--and I LOVE that she has so many historicals!!! I'm set for life! *teehee* Well, not really for life, but you know what I mean.

My historical romance must-have check list:

Great characters? Check! I really enjoyed the people in this story. The relationships were developed well, and I got pretty attached.

Good plot? Check! There is some good romantic tension here, but not quite as much as in The Quarryman's Bride, at least in my opinion. Which is one of the reasons why I couldn't give this book my highest rating.

Damsel in distress? Nope. Unfortunately, there isn't much of this and I was kinda bummed. I could imagine all kinds of awesome "rescue" opportunities, but they didn't happen. Bummer.

Happy Ending? Check! You can always count on a happy ending. Gotta have it!

(I have more things on my list, but I won't go into them until another review...)

Merrill and Rurik have eyes for each other from day one, but there are some major problems keeping them apart. One being Rurik's leech-like ex-fiance who is spreading some terrible rumors....yikes!

As always the Christian element shines through. I'm finding that books from Bethany House are excellent for bringing very strong spiritual themes--as do Revell books--and I really love that! That's one of the main reasons I read these books. I like to be spiritually fed in all I do, if I can help it.

This story is very sweet and reminded me quite a bit of a Robin Lee Hatcher. Very simple and straightforward. Excellent read, though I would have enjoyed more drama. But you know how I am about that kind of thing. *wink*
